Registration for the 2019 Spring Bobcats is Available!

Tamalpa Bobcats

The Tamalpa Bobcat Spring Track Season will begin March 24th at the College of Marin track and host 8 practices each Sunday (no practice Easter Sunday) until May 19th. Practices will be held from 4-5 at the track. On May 19th the Bobcats will have a track meet for their last official event. This meet will take place from 3 to 5 p.m.

We will continue our SENIOR BOBCATS PROGRAM: for young athletes who want to
and can train for longer races such as 5k or just improve their aerobic base.
At our first practice we will have a time trial for those students interested in the Senior Bobcats. For those students who are interested and able to run longer distances they will train with our coaches who will specifically work towards building an aerobic base, preparing for a 5k at our last practice which will be a track meet, and run a few track races. Any Bobcat who can run the full two miles without stopping at any point in the season can start training with the Senior Bobcats.

For our newer runners and younger bobcats (ages 4-12 but some younger siblings join with families and some older siblings come as well) we will continue to have the introduction to track and field with the same format as previous years:

1. 2 lap warm up, 1 lap warm up and 1 lap drills
2. Stretching
3. Stations which include long jump, throwing, hurdles, and sprints
4. 15-20 minutes of walking or jogging where runners earn 1 foot per mile and 1 gummy per mile. The purpose of this is to set goals, run/walk with your family and friends, encourage each other and go farther each week as a team

All Bobcat participants will get:
1. Bobcat T-shirt ( green this year)
2. Necklace with 1 foot charm per week for participation and 1 foot charm per week for each mile run or walked
3. Ribbon and award at last track meet - May 19th!

Cost per season this year is $100 per individual and $150 for a family (2 or more).

Families can sign up and register for the Bobcats on line at: HERE We can’t wait to work with your young runners.

Week 8: 40 Bobcats run 76.25 miles

Great job to the 40 Bobcats who made the Mother's Day Bobcats Practice!

12 Bobcats ran the Marin Memorial Day 5k course in preparation for the Memorial Day races.

The remainder of the Bobcats remained at the track and practiced running in the same lane for the 100 and 200 meter distance.

The Bobcats were preparing for next week's final official practice where the Bobcats will have a track meet and will be offering the 100, 200, 400, and 1600 meter event.  Bobcats can enter one or all of the events. For every event the Bobcat runs, they will receive a finishers ribbon with their time on it.

There will be Three Twins Ice Cream following the track meet to celebrate the performances made by the young Bobcats.

Bobcats are invited to participate in the Marin Memorial Day races on Monday May 26th.  Bobcats can enter the 5k taking place at 8 a.m. (please email Mary if you plan to do this so she can pre-register you, marymfagan@gmail.com). All Bobcats will be entered in the Youth Races which will take place at 10 a.m. after the 5k and 10k. The Bobcat coaches will be at the youth races to cheer the bobcats on and help organize the "fun races".

We hope to see lots of Bobcats at next weeks Track Meet. These are meant to be fun! We will keep track of times but will not be emphasizing place. We will share results to families after the races and each student will get a ribbon.

BOBCAT Practice #6

61 Bobcats ran 97.25 miles

This week the Bobcats learned how to hand off relays using a baton. After a warm up lap and stretches the Bobcats practiced short hand offs and 4 x 200 relays and 4 x 400 relays.

The Bobcats then tried to run as many laps as they could in 15 minutes. This week the Bobcats almost hit 100 miles collectively as a group.

Next week the Bobcats will start to practice for the Track Meet we will host on May 26th after the Marin Memorial 5k and 10k at the College of Marin Track. The Bobcats who are ready are encouraged to enter the 5k and all Bobcats can participate in the track races. There will be 4 track events: 100, 200, 400, and 1 mile race.

At our next practice those Bobcats who want to do the 5k will have an opportunity to run the Marin Memorial 5k course during practice with some of our coaches.

Bobcat runners not wishing to run that far or who want to focus on the track events will learn what those distances are in the first half of practice and do some practice races.

At our last official practice before the track meet, May 18th we will host a practice meet so the Bobcat runners will know what to expect.

Please fill out this attached survey if your Bobcat is most likely going to participate in the 5k on Memorial Day. HERE

Bobcat Practice #5: 53 Bobcats ran 79.75 miles!

53 Bobcats Run 79.5 miles after doing hill repeats, burpees, and jumping jacks!

On our 5th practice the bobcats mixed it up in the first half of practice and worked through 6 different stations of activities including jumping jacks, burpees, push ups, hill repeats, trivia, and relay races. After these activities the bobcats ran their laps. Despite our lower than usual turn out the bobcats pushed their per bobcat mileage average up and ran some great mileage.

Three Bobcats practiced met in the morning for the SFRC - We Run Together, community run, Lucy, Maya, and Hunter. Lucy and Maya then ran again for the afternoon practice.

Additionally many Bobcats ran the entire Creekside Loop including the entire Snipes Family!

Many more photos can be viewed in the slide show below.

We will not have practice next Sunday due to the Easter holiday but we will have practice the following Sunday on April 27th!!
