Inspiration

Origin of the Bobcats?

Mary Churchill (Fagan) & Liz Gottlieb (Fagan) were inspired to run by their Dad, Bob Fagan. Bob Fagan had probably one of the longest running streaks never recorded. He ran for 25 + years in a row never taking a day off; running in the rain, snow, sleet, and early morning hours of Middletown, CT.  Bob took one day off once when he spent the night on a boat. The day he spent on the water, he swam in circles around the boat to get his workout in for the day.  Bob raised eight children and worked at the University of Connecticut Medical School for over 30 years of his life. He qualified for the Boston Marathon two times, using the Middletown Marathon as a qualifier race.  He was known to run in place in the foyer of the house in the early 70s to get his workout in while his children were asleep and his wife was at work (this was pre-treadmill days).  He regularly ran at 5 a.m. to get his workout in before his nonstop day began. He inspired all eight of his children to run in high school and a few continued to run in college and after college.

Mary & Liz were inspired to run because of their Dad and running has given them so much to be thankful for.  Their sister Kate, started the Zoomerang Running Club in Glastonbury, CT.

In the Spring of 2013, Bob Fagan passed away at the young age of 71. His family was very surprised because of his healthy life style.

Mary & Liz decided to model a running club after their sister's successful program in CT, the Zoomerangs.  They also wanted to name the club after their Dad, Bob.

The Bobcat's therefore are named for Bob Fagan. As the youth run, Mary & Liz will look upon them as Bob's Cats!!

Bob Fagan visited CA once and had the pleasure of running around Phoenix Lake.

The Bobcat coaches hope to inspire the young children to enjoy running as much as we do and we hope it can remain a positive part of your children's life well into their future.
