Week 8: 40 Bobcats run 76.25 miles

Great job to the 40 Bobcats who made the Mother's Day Bobcats Practice!

12 Bobcats ran the Marin Memorial Day 5k course in preparation for the Memorial Day races.

The remainder of the Bobcats remained at the track and practiced running in the same lane for the 100 and 200 meter distance.

The Bobcats were preparing for next week's final official practice where the Bobcats will have a track meet and will be offering the 100, 200, 400, and 1600 meter event.  Bobcats can enter one or all of the events. For every event the Bobcat runs, they will receive a finishers ribbon with their time on it.

There will be Three Twins Ice Cream following the track meet to celebrate the performances made by the young Bobcats.

Bobcats are invited to participate in the Marin Memorial Day races on Monday May 26th.  Bobcats can enter the 5k taking place at 8 a.m. (please email Mary if you plan to do this so she can pre-register you, marymfagan@gmail.com). All Bobcats will be entered in the Youth Races which will take place at 10 a.m. after the 5k and 10k. The Bobcat coaches will be at the youth races to cheer the bobcats on and help organize the "fun races".

We hope to see lots of Bobcats at next weeks Track Meet. These are meant to be fun! We will keep track of times but will not be emphasizing place. We will share results to families after the races and each student will get a ribbon.

BOBCAT Practice #6

61 Bobcats ran 97.25 miles

This week the Bobcats learned how to hand off relays using a baton. After a warm up lap and stretches the Bobcats practiced short hand offs and 4 x 200 relays and 4 x 400 relays.

The Bobcats then tried to run as many laps as they could in 15 minutes. This week the Bobcats almost hit 100 miles collectively as a group.

Next week the Bobcats will start to practice for the Track Meet we will host on May 26th after the Marin Memorial 5k and 10k at the College of Marin Track. The Bobcats who are ready are encouraged to enter the 5k and all Bobcats can participate in the track races. There will be 4 track events: 100, 200, 400, and 1 mile race.

At our next practice those Bobcats who want to do the 5k will have an opportunity to run the Marin Memorial 5k course during practice with some of our coaches.

Bobcat runners not wishing to run that far or who want to focus on the track events will learn what those distances are in the first half of practice and do some practice races.

At our last official practice before the track meet, May 18th we will host a practice meet so the Bobcat runners will know what to expect.

Please fill out this attached survey if your Bobcat is most likely going to participate in the 5k on Memorial Day. HERE

Bobcat Practice #5: 53 Bobcats ran 79.75 miles!

53 Bobcats Run 79.5 miles after doing hill repeats, burpees, and jumping jacks!

On our 5th practice the bobcats mixed it up in the first half of practice and worked through 6 different stations of activities including jumping jacks, burpees, push ups, hill repeats, trivia, and relay races. After these activities the bobcats ran their laps. Despite our lower than usual turn out the bobcats pushed their per bobcat mileage average up and ran some great mileage.

Three Bobcats practiced met in the morning for the SFRC - We Run Together, community run, Lucy, Maya, and Hunter. Lucy and Maya then ran again for the afternoon practice.

Additionally many Bobcats ran the entire Creekside Loop including the entire Snipes Family!

Many more photos can be viewed in the slide show below.

We will not have practice next Sunday due to the Easter holiday but we will have practice the following Sunday on April 27th!!

We Run Together - Community Run - SFRC Sunday at 10:30

Bobcat Families join us Sunday at 10:30 to run or walk 2.63 miles at SFRC.
Wear your Bobcat t-shirt! The course will go out and back on the bike path towards Sausalito. There is pavement and a bit of trail next to the side walk.  I will be there to record mileage for any bobcat member who shows up. I will also pass out your charms for the week.

We will still have the afternoon Bobcats practice at 4 at Marin Catholic!

This event is being hosted by Kathy Johnson and SFRC.

We would like to invite the entire Bay Area running community to join us for a 2.62 mile fun run to celebrate and share in the spirit and camaraderie of the upcoming Boston Marathon on April 21st, and demonstrate that runners from all over the country are in this together.

We are partnering with the SF-Marin Food Bank and ask that everyone please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to help those in our community that are in need.

Our friends from Hoka OneOne will be on hand with demo shoes if you would like to try out a pair of Hokas on the run. Hoka elite athlete Sage Canaday (2013 Lake Sonoma 50 Winner, 2:16 marathoner) will be hanging out to chat with runners!

Locals Osmo Nutrition will set up jugs of sports drink for pre and post run!

For food donations, the SF-Marin Food Bank needs the same non-perishable quality foods that runners eat! Granola bars, nut butters, soup, beans, cereals, canned tuna and salmon, canned fruits and vegetables - just don't bring anything in glass or that is perishable. We will have large barrels at SFRC from Friday, April 11th to Monday, April 14th to collect food donations.

For the run we will head out to the Mill Valley-Sausalito bike path for 2.62 miles, though you are of course welcome to run a bit longer as well! We will be leaving from the store at 10:30am. This is an all-levels and all-ages fun run and you are welcome to walk as well. Come a little bit early to try on some Hokas if you would like to take them on the run.

If you have run the Boston Marathon in the past then show up in your Boston race gear!

Week #4: 66 Bobcats ran 88 miles HERE

Coach Liz, Frank, Will, & Connor took 8 Bobcats out to the College of Marin Bike Path loop and ran 2.6 miles!! Meanwhile, 56 Bobcats ran and walked for 15 minutes around the track collecting popsicle sticks as they went. Many of the groups experimented with relays and speed play in the first half of practice. The Bobcats did a great job managing the Rugby game that was going on. Hopefully next week we will have the track to ourselves again. Here is a link to more photos from today! Hope to see those Bobcat families who missed this week's practice next week!

Week 3: 70 Bobcats Ran 91.5 miles!!!

Congratulations Bobcat Families!

70 Bobcats ran 91.5 miles this week. We had a great practice. A few new members may still need to pick up their water bottles (these are available weekly at the sign up table where you pick up your name tags.  The new t-shirts will be in by our practice on April 13th!

A few news items:

I observed that one parent brought carrot sticks for students when they finished their run. Next week I will bring something from the farmer's market for students to have as their "treat" after the run. I hope its a hit for the bobcats as well as the parents. We will keep the gummy bear option as well as have a healthier treat! :)

Some of our older bobcats are itching for more mileage. Our coaching staff will start to transition next week and those bobcats who are preparing for the 5k race at the Marin Memorial Day races may go out with some of the coaches on the Creek Loop to complete a 2.1 mile loop during our training session. We will update bobcats about this next week.

Remember parents if you have any questions, suggestions, or clarifications feel free to email me. (Mary - marymfagan@gmail.com)
